"100" Design Ideas

The first step in brainstorming was to try to come up with 100 design ideas to pick and choose from; 35 were developed, and this list is shown below.

Napkin Sketch

After picking initial features and a design, the first napkin sketches were created:

Pretotype

An intial pretotype was made out of a plastic cup, GoPro strap, and tape:

This pretotype design allowed for a rotatable container as used in the final design, although its major flaw was that it didn't include lid. A hose clamp was also attached as another attachment possibility.

Prototype

The first prototype for the product was designed in CAD. Click the images below for feature descriptions:

Main assembly

Main assembly shown for the device. Includes a sliding lid over a square container with clear plastic inserts attached to a pipe clip.

Locking mechanism

Involves a notch that slides into place similar to many sliding devices such as calculator covers.

Sliding lid

This design does not allow for the lid to come off, keeping the product in one piece. This proved later to be problematic as the lid needs to come off to take the inserts out.

Pipe clip

Pipe clip shown attached.

Fastener system

Involves a screw fitting the clip to the container.
